Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit have arrested a Lauderhill man, Kaiden Flunk, in connection with a fatal incident where a passenger riding on the trunk of his vehicle fell off and later died from his injuries.
On Friday, August 11, at approximately 3:52 a.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an injured person in the 1500 block of Southwest 81st Avenue in North Lauderdale.
Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered an adult male lying in the middle of the road. North Lauderdale Fire Rescue immediately transported the injured man to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to the detectives, the preliminary investigation reveals that Flunk, 18, was driving a 2004 Volvo S60, traveling westbound on West McNab Road. He stopped at a traffic signal to turn left onto Southwest 81st Avenue. At that moment, one of the passengers in the vehicle informed Flunk that he intended to exit the car and ride on the trunk.
As Flunk’s Volvo continued to head southbound on Southwest 81st Avenue, the passenger fell off the trunk and landed on the roadway. The passenger succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on August 14.
Kaiden Flunk was arrested on Thursday, August 24, following the investigation. He is now facing one count of vehicular homicide.
The authorities have not released the name of the deceased passenger, pending notification of next of kin.
