Tamarac residents are invited to attend a community forum on deed fraud, hosted by Broward County Property Appraiser Marty Kiar and Tamarac Mayor Michelle J. Gomez.
The event will take place on Tuesday, September 16, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 West Commercial Boulevard.
The forum will provide residents with information on how criminals commit deed fraud and what steps can be taken to protect their homes. South Florida has become a hotspot for title fraud, with scammers filing fake deeds, taking out mortgages, renting properties, and clouding property titles.
“This is a very important community event about deed fraud,” Kiar said in a video promoting the event. “Unfortunately, South Florida is the title fraud capital of the world. Criminals try to steal your property by filing fake deeds, and it can really hurt you and your family. We want to talk to you and show you how to prevent this and what we are doing to hold these criminals accountable.”
In addition to fraud-prevention education, representatives from the Broward County Property Appraiser’s office will introduce residents to Owner Alert. This free system notifies homeowners of any document filings that could affect their property.
BCPA’s Mobile Exemptions specialists will also be on site to assist residents with filing for tax-saving exemptions they may be eligible for.
Residents are encouraged to register in advance by emailing MayorGomezEvents@Tamarac.org or by calling (954) 597-3460.
