Three suspects were arrested following an armed robbery at an Aldi supermarket.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office incident report, on March 10, deputies were dispatched to the Aldi store located at 7050 North University Drive in response to reports of a theft.
Upon arrival, they spoke with an Aldi employee and a witness who stated that three individuals—two Black males and one Black female—had stolen multiple items from the store before heading toward a Kia Soul in the parking lot.
The suspects, identified as Evelyn Rembert, 44, of Fort Lauderdale, Randolph Shiflet, 42, of Lauderhill, and Roger Sheely, 42, of Lauderhill, were caught during a traffic stop following the theft.
As the group approached the vehicle, witnesses say Rembert allegedly took out a large knife in a threatening manner toward those attempting to stop her. A witness captured photos of the incident, including an image of the vehicle and its license plate, which was critical in the eventual capture of the trio.
A Be-On-the-Lookout (BOLO) alert for the Kia Soul led to a License Plate Reader hit near Sunrise Boulevard and 441. Deputies eventually located the vehicle, and several law enforcement units, including BSO’s VIPER unit, responded to assist.
BSO conducted a high-risk felony stop on the Kia Soul at 3400 West Sunrise Boulevard and detained Rembert, Shiflet, and Sheely. Witnesses were brought to the location separately, and all three suspects were positively identified as the people involved in the Aldi theft.
The report shows that during the investigation, deputies observed numerous stolen Aldi products inside the vehicle, including meat products and cleaning supplies.
Upon interviewing the three suspects, Sheely confessed that he, Rembert, and Shiflet had gone to Aldi specifically to steal. He admitted to taking several salmon fillets and detergent boxes but denied seeing Rembert pull a knife.
Shiflet also confessed, stating he stole about 20 packages of fish and steak without attempting to pay. He also denied witnessing Rembert with a weapon. Rembert declined to make a statement.
Sheely and Shiflet were charged with petit theft for stealing just under $600 worth of products. Rembert was charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon due to her alleged use of the knife to intimidate store employees who tried to stop her.
All three were booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
