Nearly a year after the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old boy in broad daylight, detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office have arrested three Lauderhill men in connection with the killing.
BSO’s Homicide Unit, working with the agency’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violent Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) team, announced Thursday the arrests of Ta’Narine Hamilton, 18, Khalil Elie, 22, and Morris King Jr., 19. Each is charged with one count of first-degree felony murder.
The deadly shooting occurred shortly after noon on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, near the 2100 block of Northwest 28th Street in Oakland Park.
Deputies responded along with Oakland Park Fire Rescue and found Ammon Watson shot and unresponsive in the driveway of a family home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, a gunman ran up to Watson while he stood in the driveway and opened fire before fleeing on foot.
Detectives said they identified the three suspects over the course of the investigation and obtained arrest warrants. Hamilton was already in custody on unrelated charges. Elie was arrested on June 16, and King Jr. was located in Sunrise on Thursday, July 10, according to BSO.
Bond information for the accused killers was not immediately available.
Authorities did not disclose a motive for the shooting or say whether the suspects knew the victim. The investigation is ongoing, according to BSO.
