Moneque Chantel Darling {BSO}
A Lauderhill woman was arrested after allegedly breaking into a locked bathroom and attacking her boyfriend with a kitchen knife during an argument over text messages with other women.
According to a Lauderhill Police Department arrest report, Moneque Chantel Darling, 28, of Lauderhill, was taken into custody on May 13 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon stemming from what officers described as a domestic dispute turned violent inside the couple’s shared home near the 5900 block of Northwest 23rd Street.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Lauderhill Police, the victim told officers he was using the bathroom when the two began arguing through the closed door. The dispute allegedly started after the woman confronted him about messaging other women.
The argument escalated when Darling reportedly banged on the door, managed to unlock it using an unknown object, and confronted him. After briefly wrestling on the floor, the woman walked away, but returned minutes later, forced the bathroom door open again, and began “slicing the knife in up and down and side-to-side motions” near the victim, the report says.
The victim told police he tried to block the knife and was cut twice on his lower right tricep, causing visible lacerations. He was eventually able to get the knife away from Darling by grabbing her hand and forcing her to drop the weapon.
Records show a child in the home corroborated the sequence of events to police, telling officers he saw Darling trying to unlock the bathroom door while holding a knife.
Darling claimed the altercation began when the victim opened the bathroom door and punched her in the face twice. She told police she fought back and was briefly placed in a chokehold before fleeing the house and calling 911.
Officers noted a small cut on Darling’s finger but observed no injuries where she claimed she had been struck.
A search of the residence failed to locate the knife allegedly used in the attack, but officers reported finding bloodstains inside the bedroom that aligned with the victim’s injuries.
Darling was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
