A man was struck and killed by a driver who initially left the scene of the crash in Tamarac on Tuesday night, authorities said.
The male pedestrian, whose name is being withheld by BSO under Marsy’s Law, was crossing the street in a poorly lit area in the 3300 block of West Commercial Boulevard, outside of a designated crosswalk, around 9:30 p.m., according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit.
A preliminary investigation by BSO revealed that Billy Tervil, 20, of Pompano Beach, was driving a 2018 Toyota C-HR utility vehicle east in the far left lane of West Commercial Boulevard when the vehicle struck the pedestrian, detectives said. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
According to BSO, Tervil initially left the scene of the crash. Later, Tervil returned to the scene and said he was involved in the crash, detectives said.
BSO said its investigation into the crash is active and ongoing.
