The Tamarac City Commission has partnered with Food for the Poor and Dare to Care to ship thousands of pounds of donated supplies to Jamaica to support relief efforts following Hurricane Melissa.
In response to the storm’s destruction, the city coordinated a community-wide collection drive, gathering nonperishable food, bottled water, clothing and hygiene products from residents, businesses and local organizations. According to the city, the donation period has closed with roughly 9,000 pounds of essential items collected.
The supplies will be divided between Food for the Poor and Dare to Care, two organizations working to address both immediate disaster relief needs and longer-term community recovery efforts. The partnership aims to ensure that the contributions are distributed efficiently and reach residents most affected by the hurricane.
City officials said the collaboration allows the donations to be shipped safely to Jamaica, where they will be delivered to impacted communities.
In a statement, Tamarac leaders expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed, noting that the outpouring of support reflects the city’s commitment to compassion and community service.
