Temple Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek in Tamarac will hold a memorial service and program next month to commemorate the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attacks on Israel.
The event begins at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, 2024, at the 5700 Northwest 94th Ave synagogue. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
The program will honor the victims murdered in the Hamas-led terrorist attacks on southern Israel on Oct. 7, as well as those slain defending the Jewish state. The memorial will also be a “yahrzeit” – a Yiddish word used to describe the anniversary observance of a death – to encourage healing and reflection.
After a congregational service, attendees at the Tamarac event will join a noon EST online broadcast of a major Oct. 7 global commemoration in Israel.
The Israel event will feature family members of Oct. 7 victims and hostages, as well as Jewish leaders and representatives from several Jewish organizations.
The Oct. 7 terrorist assault on Israel, conducted during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, involved the killing of some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and the abduction of more than 250 hostages into Gaza, where dozens remain alive in captivity.
“October 7, 2023, will be remembered as one of the deadliest and more abhorrent massacres against the Jewish people and the State of Israel,” said Beth Torah Sha’aray Tzedek co-Rabbis Rami Pavolotzky and Rabbi Daniela Szuster. “As we mark the first anniversary of this horrific event, we invite the community to join us for a moving memorial service.”
Organizers said attendees should enter the Tamarac temple through the parking lot on Northwest 58th Street. For more information, call 954 721-7660, email frontdesk@tbtst.org, or visit http://www.tbtst.org.
