The 29-year-old woman killed in an apartment fire in Tamarac Tuesday morning has been identified as Keera Brabham, authorities said.
Brabham’s death is being investigated by the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit as well as its Crime Scene Unit, BSO said in a press release issued Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities first learned of the blaze shortly after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a structure fire in the apartment complex at 7900 S. Colony Circle.
The building was evacuated, and the fire was extinguished. Brabham was found inside apartment #203 and taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to BSO.
“BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are actively investigating, processing the scene, and speaking to witnesses and family members,” BSO said in the release.
The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of Brabham’s death.
Alma Black, who said in a Facebook post that Brabham was her niece, wrote that she “can’t fully express the pain I’m feeling right now.”
“This was my little baby girl, and I’m yet to fathom the circumstances around her death,” Black wrote. “She was passionate about her profession (a licensed esthetician), very ambitious. She was an amazing mother to her beautiful four-year-old son. He was her life, and her world revolved around him. She loved life, and she lived her short life to the fullest.”
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact BSO Homicide Unit Detective John Curcio at 954-321-4210 or to submit a tip through the SaferWatch app. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477), submit a tip online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.
