Detectives on Monday released video footage of a person they said stabbed a vehicle driver in Tamarac.
Investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying the attacker, who witnesses said stabbed the driver of a Dodge Charger at a Bank of America drive-thru ATM at 7001 N. University Drive on Dec. 17 around 6:30 p.m., according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit.
Video of the incident shows the apparent stabber: an athletically built person who is around 6 feet tall with short black hair and a beard.
The person, who appears to be in their late 20s to early 30s, was wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans, and green sneakers at the time of the stabbing.
The footage shows the attacker standing outside the Dodge Charger while apparently armed with “an unknown pointed weapon.” After the stabbing, a large amount of blood could be seen on the person’s jeans before they escaped on foot.
A BSO helicopter spotted the Charger that night traveling into the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, authorities said.
At the airport, investigators learned the Charger was a rental car that had been returned to the rental company with blood splattered inside the interior, according to BSO.
Investigators said the rental car driver had not been found.
Authorities did not publicly identify the attacker as a man Monday, but the video footage appears to show the assailant is a male.
Anyone with information about the attacker’s identity or location – or other information about the crime – is asked to call BSO Violent Crimes Det. Lisa Almanza-Londono at 954-321-4185.
