A woman was injured Tuesday when flames broke out on the third floor of a medical building on the HCA Florida Woodmont Hospital campus in Tamarac, authorities said.
According to Van Schoen, spokesman for Tamarac Fire Rescue, firefighters arrived to find heavy flames shooting from three front windows on the building’s third story.
The blaze, which broke out around 4:30 p.m. on the medical campus at 7201 N. University Dr., was intense enough to blow out the glass of the three windows, Schoen said.
One patient, a woman rescued at the scene, was initially reported in critical condition but has since improved, authorities said.
She was rushed to a specialized medical facility in Kendall for treatment of smoke inhalation. An update on her condition was not available Tuesday night.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene in Tamarac, including units from North Lauderdale, Margate, Coral Springs, Lauderhill, and Sunrise, Schoen said.
Fire crews on Tuesday night were clearing the building of smoke and gases to allow investigators safe access to the scene.
The state fire marshal has been called to assist in investigating the cause of the fire, which was not immediately known.
