Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac will host a Pre Rosh Hashanah Fair for kids on Sunday, Sept. 15.
The fair, marking the lead-up to the Jewish New Year, will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the center at 8100 N University Dr. The cost is $10 per child. Children age two and older and their families are welcome to attend.
Activities at the event will include challah baking, apple-and-honey tasting, crafts, making New Year’s cards, and a shofar station where participants can polish and shine shofars and see different varieties of the ram’s horns.
Kids will also have a chance to take home their own shofar for an extra $10.
To register for the fair or purchase event sponsorships, visit the center’s website.
Rosh Hashanah this year begins at sundown on Wednesday, Oct. 2, and ends at sundown on Friday, Oct. 4. According to the My Jewish Learning website, the Jewish New Year is a time to celebrate the completion of another year while also taking stock of one’s life.
According to the site, the two days of Rosh Hashanah usher in the Days of Awe, which culminate in the fast day of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac Rabbi Kopel Silberberg said that with the High Holidays just a few weeks away, it’s a great time for families to get kids involved in joyous Jewish community events.
“It’s very important to bring Judaism to the next generation in a fun and exciting way,” Silberberg said.
