It has been two weeks since School Board Member Abby Freedman assured residents, after she asked them repeatedly to raise their hands at a community meeting, that she would take down her controversial boundary proposals.
On December 7, the Taravella Band will be holding a Holiday Bazaar and they are asking anyone would like to rent a space to sell their items to contact them. Spaces are only $35 for one or $45 for two and all proceeds help fund the trip.
Freedman, who was elected last November, now pays $23,900 to send her 12-year-old son Harrison to Fort Lauderdale-based Pine Crest School, where he’s in the seventh grade.

Broward County Public Schools has just launched their new website, and while I never thought anything was wrong with their old website, the new website is a worthy effort and seems easy enough to navigate through. One problem they really need to change is getting rid of the stock photos filled with children that don’t even go to Broward Schools, much less live in Florida.

Rachael Rosier spends afternoons teaching both writing and theatre to students who would not otherwise get exposure to either. School Board Candidate Robert Mayersohn held a kickoff event at Buffalo’s Southwest Cafe in Coral Springs on Thursday. The event was attended by friends and supporters who are rallying around him to win in August.
School Board Candidate for District 4 Nick Steffens held his campaign kick-off on Tuesday evening at Wings Plus in Coral Springs.
Despite the rain, Steffens and volunteers had a good turnout of of supporters which included two mayors.

Angela Hall, a 15 year resident of Tamarac won the Crystal Apple Award for the Community Member of the Year. The tireless commitment Hall has given to her local school made her well-deserving of this award.
Friends are shocked and saddened by the recent news that Blake McCullers, 15, died as the result of suicide early Wednesday morning.
Blake was only a sophomore at JP Taravella High School and was on the competitive cheerleading team.

Held at Meyers Latin Flair Restaurant, Solomon was joined by her four children and many supporters.
The School Board race for District 4 will have a competitive season now that six candidates have filed to run in the open seat. More candidates have filed to run in District 4 race than for any other school board race in the county. There may seem to be a lot of candidates, however, during this time in 2010, there were seven candidates, with only six made it past qualifying.

Just a few months ago, if you asked city officials if there were plans for a charter schools they would have said no.
I don’t know if they if they didn’t want to consider the idea or were keeping quiet on any proposals. There is no denying that charter schools have gained in popularity among families in Broward county, drawing over 6,215 new students from public schools from last year for a total of 29,500 students in the district.
