Come out and support the City of Tamarac’s local High School when JP Taravella’s Drama Department presents Walk Two Moons.
They believe in education, but the City is wasting taxpayer time and money on a poorly selected location for a charter school that is neither wanted or needed, said residents from Kings Point that turned out for Wednesday night’s City Commission meeting.

I’ve been accused of being anti-charter school. Am I against all charter schools? Not necessarily. Am I against most of them? Perhaps. Especially when there have been so few that have proven any exceptional benefits to students besides teaching to the State tests.
Kings Point residents recently discovered the City’s not-so-transparent plans for a new charter high school to be built near their community as well as their own commissioner’s involvement with school officials at a recent meeting.
The 2014 high school grades and graduation rates were released by the Florida Department of Education. In the data, more than 75 percent of Broward County Public Schools traditional high schools earned an A or B grade and achieved a graduation rate of 88 percent.
Since March of 2014, we have been reporting that someone at the City of Tamarac wants a charter high school built but no one at city hall is coming forward with who it is, and why they requested this without any fact-finding work before courting schools.
Friday was declared Tamarac Elementary School Day in honor of it being their 40th Anniversary.
The City has been very sneaky about building a new Charter High School in town. They say it’s wanted and needed, but by who?

One dedicated local teacher will be traveling to India to attend the wedding of a former student and has set up a GoFundMe Page to help pay for the trip.
A charter school company that wants approval of a special exception to build their school in Tamarac will take place in a public hearing in front of the planning board in July. The school would serve as a dropout prevention high school for at-risk students with two sessions each day for a total of 400 hundred students.
