The Horizon House in Tamarac Florida is now for sale

Buy a bit of Tamarac history in this beautiful home and you can bet that you will have a place unlike any other cookie-cutter builder home here in South Florida!

Named the “Horizon House,” This home was a showcase of modern design in the 1970’s. I originally wrote about it on back on the Woodlands Country Club website in 2010. It is now for sale and it is more beautiful that ever now that the large oaks have grown in around it. Unfortunately, the owner is now deceased and this home is being sold at a relative bargain.

Tamarac’s Watchdog: What’s new with Patti Lynn

Tamarac resident Patti Lynn although not as visible as she was a few years ago is still committed as ever to making Tamarac a better place to live.
Despite two unsuccessful bids for city commissioner, as well as being passed over by the Mayor and Commissioners to replace Patti Atkins-Grad after her arrest in 2010, Lynn still loves her city but believes things can be better.

Great news! Did you know that the City of Tamarac will be spending $185,000 this year and $150,000 more next year for entrance signs at Woodmont just west of University Drive? This is great news for Woodmont residents.
Not so great news for the The Woodlands Community who had to form their own district to pay for improvements such as this.

I Just Found this Special Deal on the Costa Concordia

I Just Found this Special Deal on the Costa Concordia

I was cleaning all my junk mail off my cluttered desk tonight when I came across this interesting brochure that caught my eye. Usually, I would have chucked this one in the garbage, but there’s something intriguing about getting a special deal on a ship like the Costa Concordia that essentially became ship-wrecked and is now lying on it’s side off the coast of Giglio. The January 13th disaster happened when the captain deviated from his planned route creating a huge gash that capsized the ship.

Jeffery London, 48, was arrested Wednesday night at his home in Lauderdale Lakes after returning from conducting bible study at the Bible Church of God in Fort Lauderdale. Earlier this month, the victim, who is now 18 years old, confided in a friend from church that he was abused repeatedly over the decade he lived with London. The victim’s mother had left him in London’s care when he was 8 years old after facing hard financial times.

Broward Coalition says, “Speak now!” or there may not be a tomorrow

The Broward Coalition is on the forefront of fighting for the rights of condominium and Home owner associations to be protected from the abusive banks and lending institutions that are sitting back and purposely stalling foreclosures proceedings on properties they own. They are heartlessly forcing association members to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars to pick up the financial slack.

Memorial for Bradford Fernandez – Special Presentation About Teen Suicide Prevention

Memorial for Bradford Fernandez – Special Presentation About Teen Suicide Prevention

On Saturday, January 21, 2012, a Candlelight Memorial Vigil will be held for Bradford Fernandez in Tamarac Florida. Bradford was only 14 years old when he took his life on January 21, 2011. He was in 8th grade and attended Westpine Middle School in Sunrise.

The memorial is open to everyone and parents and teens are encouraged to attend as there will be an emotional presentation by Bradford’s mother Ana Fernandez. Fernandez, who has created the non-profit organization “The Bradford Organization,” will be discussing Bradford’s life in the hope that it may educate people about teen suicide and show how parents and teens can recognize the warning signs and get the help that they need before it’s too late.

Tamarac Farmers Market – Shop Every Sunday

Tamarac Farmers Market – Shop Every Sunday

Your family will love the Tamarac Farmers Market. You can’t miss it on the corner of University and Southgate Boulevard, next to the Gary B. Jones Dog Park. It’s now open every Sunday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and you can even bring your friendly dog and shop after visiting the dog park next door. I found some delicious food last week when visiting. I bought some dog treats for my two dogs, delicious Bolognese sauce that we ate last night with linguine, lemon garlic hummus, chocolate chip blondies and biscuits, hot sauces as well as some other great items.
